A native of North
Carolina, Ricky Gibson grew up playing gospel, bluegrass and country music. He
taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 12 and soon afterward taught
himself to play the mandolin using a book and a record, and also to play the
bass fiddle. At age 14, Ricky started performing at local nursing homes and
churches with his family and he knew back then that he wanted to be an
entertainer.
Now, Ricky enjoys playing
live shows on weekends to all types of audiences. Fans will say after seeing a
show by Ricky, they are impressed with his instrumental talent as well as
versatility of his vocal abilities.
Performances of western music also make many fans feel they have stepped
back in time hearing the yodeling and soothing songs from the past. Ricky says it is not the size of the
audience that matters, but his joy comes from giving his best at each
performance.
Ricky has written multiple songs and has put them to music and offers them on a CD project entitled “Originals” by Ricky Gibson. Ricky started R.G. Music Inc in 2007, which is a music production company. Ricky has just released a brand new CD project called classic country vol 1 which brings country music from the past back to the main stream of country music. Some of Ricky's music is played on a local country music station, WBRF 98.1 FM. And listeners call in frequently to request his original songs. Ricky joined Ascap in 2007, and working with other songwriters has always been a joy for him. Ricky has recently joined the NC Songwriter Co- Op.
