A native of NC, Ricky grew up in
gospel, bluegrass and country music. Ricky watched his father and
brothers play and saw the joy it brought to family and friends around
him. He taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 12 and soon
afterward taught himself to play the mandolin using a book and a
record, and also to play the bass fiddle. At age 14, Ricky started
performing at local nursing homes and churches with his family and he
knew back then that he wanted to be an entertainer.
Now, Ricky enjoys playing live shows
on weekends to all types of audiences, sometime as a solo act, with his
rich baritone voice, or with bands. Ricky says it is not the size of
the audience that matters, but his joy comes from giving his best at
each performance. Ricky's songwriting comes natural for him. Having so
many heroes to mold his own style of music and telling a life story for
his listeners in his songs is a true passion for him.
